Calming sleep story

The Stardust Train 🚂✨

Do you know what happens when a child gives a great big yawn? I'll tell you, but it's a secret: somewhere up above the clouds, a little train gives a tiny whistle. Ever so quietly — so only sleepy ears can hear it.

That's the Stardust Train.

The Stardust Train sets off every evening, just as the sun lies down in its cloud-bed behind the hills. Its engine is made of moonlight, its wheels are made of stardust, and it doesn't run on rails — it rolls along the yawns of sleepy children, gliding from one to the next.

Sssss-hhhh… sssss-hhhh… goes the Stardust Train. It doesn't clatter. It doesn't rattle. It just glides, softly, like a duvet being pulled up to your chin.

In the first carriage ride the teddy bears. They've worked hard all day — hugging, waiting, comforting. Now they gaze out of the round windows at the stars, nodding as the train rocks them. The teddy nods… the teddy nods…

In the second carriage ride all of today's giggles. Every laugh that floated up into the world today curls up here like little glowing balls of wool. They roll gently to and fro as the train curves along the Milky Way.

The third carriage is the softest one of all. This is where the goodnight kisses go, and the tucking-ins, and every whispered "sleep tight". It's always warm in there, and it glows faintly, like a night light.

And where is the Stardust Train going? To Dream Station. There, a lovely dream rolls out to every yawning child: some children get a flying dream, some get a pancake dream, and some get the dream where their teddy bear can talk.

Can you hear it? Sssss-hhhh… sssss-hhhh… The train is getting closer. It's just rolling along a great big yawn… it might even be yours.

Close your eyes and listen. The engine gives its tiny whistle: I'm here. The wheels sprinkle stardust onto your pillow. And from the third carriage, a goodnight kiss rolls out and lands right on your forehead.

Sssss-hhhh… sssss-hhhh… Goodnight. The Stardust Train will carry you to Dream Station. It won't stop until morning.

The end. Sweet dreams! 🌙
